The Wrecking Ball

Posted by The Sultan on November 21, 2008

Oh, boy.  You know how much The Sultan loves the option in college football.  He’s got 472 reasons to show you why.  The Sultan was getting tired of hearing that “the U was back”.  Here’s why they aren’t.

  1. The Ramblin’ Wreck put 472 rushing yards and 41 points on “The U”
  2. You can no longer be called “The U”, if you no longer play in the Orange Bowl.  (It’s a shame)
  3. There aren’t criminal press clippings like days of old.
  4. No longer is there an annual Miami scuffle.
  5. No more of this.
  6. Larry Coker.

Big football weekend coming up.  Everyone is waiting on baited breath for the Texas Tech/Oklahoma game Saturday.  We’ll touch on that later.  High School playoffs are warming up.  The Sultan will be in attendance at a classic SC Prep gridiron rivalry tonight: Gaffney at Sumter.  It will be a knock down, drag out.

Here’s a prediction from The Sultan: The Citadel plays in The Swamp on Saturday.  They will put up at least 10 points on the Gators.  The Sutlan can’t wait for The Dogs to score more points in Gainsville than Spurrier’s Gamecocks.

Bobby Johnson’s Commodores beat up on their in-state rival, Tennessee, adding insult to injury.

Penn State earns a Rose Bowl bid with a victory over Michigan State.  The Sultan hopes they will face Beaver Nation rather than the Evil Empire from LA.

Utah flexes their muscles against BYU, proving that they belong in the BCS discussion.

Clemson wins in Charlottesville, somehow, and Dabo’s stock rises in Tiger Town.  Yaba Dabo Do.

The Ohio State University gives the Maize and Blue its 9th loss of the year.  The Sultan thinks that Michigan will miraculously keep it close.

Upset Alert: Duke over Virginia Tech.

Now what you’ve been waiting for.  Texas Tech travels to Norman, Oklahoma in a Big 12 showdown.  Both teams are coming off of a bye week, which is not good news for Texas Tech.  The Sooner defense has had extra time to stop Mike Leach’s three-ringed circus called the Spread Offense.  This game will be like a classic McEnroe/Borg Wimbledon Final.  Back and forth and back and forth; the first one to break wins.  The Sooners have the longest home winning streak in the country, at 23 games.  Bob Stoops has only lost twice at Gaylord-Oklahoma Memorial during his tenure with the Sooners.  His team is an underdog at home this go around, so you better believe his team will have plenty of locker room bulletin board material.  They will be ready to go.  The Sooners will win this game in overtime, mainly because the BCS is communist and will wreak even more havoc in the rankings.  The over/under should be 100, and The Sultan would take the over.  This will be a classic shootout.  Enjoy.

Keep it in the shortgrass…
